Clip Analysis- Own Clip.

Clip Analysis- Own Clip.
The clip I am going to be analysing the clip from waterloo road series 6 episode 6 and I have re-created the scene again my group and I changed the dialogue and a few angle shots. The clip that we have made is called ‘Drugs in the library’. The main issue in the clip that we are trying to get across is peer pressure. The clip is about a girl that has some drugs and is pressuring one of her friends to join her to take some, another girl over hears them and is disgusted with what they are saying and what they are going to do and has words with them.

The sound in the clip starts off with a song, this song is upbeat and draws the attention of our target audience then fades out when we all start talking, this has been done because we are in a library so it is supposed to be silent also because it is supposed to be done in secret much like the real version which is only what the actors are saying and no other sound in the clip other than the opening music. Close to the end of the clip the tone of the scene gets more serious and there are raised voices this is where we had to choose a song appropriate for the ambiance of the clip at that time. We chose a song that is catchy fast and fits in well with the losing scene.

Editing in this clip is fast pace especially at the end where it cuts from character to character building up the tension. Mostly close ups have been used so we can see what the characters fell like while saying their lines and the emotion especially in one certain character that is angry at the fact the other two girls are thinking about taking the drugs. Over the shoulder shots have been used and panning when a new character was introduced involving the audience because they feel that they can see what the characters are seeing.

The mise en scene is important in this clip as it shows a lot about the characters. The clip starts by showing the characters surroundings, the school library they also show a lesson in the library probably the one that they are meant to be in, establishing that they are truanting and are a ‘bad bunch’. The clothes that the characters are wearing show off their social class. They aren’t dressed smartly unlike some of the other students shown in the library backing up the point of them being the ‘bad bunch’. The way that they speak to each other also emphasises that they are of the lower class, not pronouncing all of their words properly and being rebellious and taking drugs something that children of a higher class aren’t thought of doing.

The camera in this clip uses a low angled shot whilst the characters are talking to each other about taking the drugs. When the new character is introduced, the one that doesn’t want anything to do with the drugs the director films a mid shot of her panning round until she gets to the same place as the other two girls this shows authority and that the audience should watch out for what she is about to do because the director is keeping the camera on her face waiting for her to speak. The director keeps the camera on Riddhi for the rest of the scene only briefly panning back to the other two characters this shows that the audience should concentrate on what Riddhi is saying trying to get a message across to the audience that taking drugs is not good and you shouldn’t do what these two girls were doing in the library.

Waterloo Road- Clip Analysis.

Waterloo Road- Clip Analysis.
The clip that i am going to analyse is a scene from waterloo road. This clip is about two girls in the school toilets truanting from class and talking about taking drugs after school, what they didn’t know is that their friend is in the other cubicle and can hear what they have been saying. The other girl confronts both girls about their conversation and how wrong it is to take drugs and it turns into a heated conversation for all 3 of them.
The camera and use of angles in this clip is very important because it tells the audience who to look down on and who you should support in the clip. When Sam finds the other two girls in the toilets a high angled shot has been used to look up at Sam highlighting that she is far superior to the other girls because she is not contemplating taking drugs. Slow panning has been used when the question is asked ‘are you in or what’ this illustrates hesitance in the character because she is not sure whether she wants to take the drugs panning allows time for her to respond and the audience look at the response of the other character. Tracking has been used when the two girls are talking in the toilet, this adds fluency to the clip and makes the camera movements look more natural.
The Mise en scene in this clip is important because it displays what type of girls they are and what kind of school they go to. The clip starts by showing us the girl’s surroundings, the messy unclean toilets that they are standing in, graffiti up the walls and a generally dirty place. This suggests that these characters are of a lower class   judging from their surroundings. Their clothes are also messy with shirts un-tucked, short skirts, shorts ties and their top buttons not done they also wearing hooped earrings and a lot of makeup this suggests that they want to be stylish keep up to date with the latest fashion even if they are in school.
The sound in this clip is non- digetic. The beginning of the clip starts with the Waterloo Road theme tune this then fades out so we can concentrate on what the girls in the toilets are saying to each other. The first thing that we notice is that the girls have accents this helps us establish what part of England they are from. Things that they say emphasise to the audience that along with their poor dress sense they speak commonly as well using words like ‘aint’ and ‘gonna’. At the end of the clip the girls all stop talking and the theme tune to Waterloo Road fades in this leaves the clip on a cliff hanger and makes the audience feel like they want to see what happens next and watch the next show.
The editing in this clip is fast pace. It is especially fast pace towards the end of the clip to create tension between the girls. There is an over the shoulder shot, this makes the audience feel that they can see what the characters see, making them can feel comfortable watching it. At the very end of the clip a high angled shot of Sam is shown, this makes the audience look up at Sam so making them believe that she is the better out of the three and the girl that is doing the right thing.

In this screen shot of outnumbered I will be analysing the mise en scene .

In the background of the screenshot there is a lot of mess, children’s drawings and what looks like a well lived in home. This not only suggests that the woman at the sink has children, but that they are a big part of her life and she is therefore ‘Outnumbered’.

The kitchen is very messy with no surface free from clutter; her clothes are very casual, emphasising that she spends more time looking after the kids, than looking after herself.
The prevailing colour in this screen shot is beige, this colour suggests that family life can be dull at times yet the colourful input of children’s toys and drawings brings both entertainment and madness.

The housewife at the sink making tea can be seen as modern life pigeon holing parents into stereotypes we have long since broken away from.
